EP.10 Drop the Lime, The Knife, Boys Noize April 21, 2007

Finally! This post is dedicated to all you beat addicts out there!

Drop the Lime is Luca Venezia, a New York based electro/grime music producer. If you love Girl Talk than you’re probably familiar with Drop the Lime. If you’re not, visit DTL’s myspace to get a feel of his sound.
mp3. Drop the Lime - Just Pump it DJ Mix >>(from Trash Menagerie, 43:10)
Track list will be posted upon request ![]()
Next is The Knife, another great electro band. This sibling duo come from Stockholm, Sweden. Aphex Twin is listed among their music influence, so it isn’t surprising to hear such striking resemblance.
mp3. The Knife - Heartbeats
Not their most recent song, but probably their best so far.
Last one: Boys Noize, or Alex Ridha, a German based electro music producer and DJ. Ridha has made remixes for Kaiser Chiefs, Shiny Toy Guns, Bloc Party, and many others. His debut album is set to be released sometime this year.
mp3. Feist - My Moon, My Man (Boys Noize Remix)
This, if I ‘m not mistaken, is Boys Noize’s most recent remix.
EP.9 Laakso, Natalie Walker April 19, 2007

I was going through Sonic Youth’s myspace like the stalker that I am, and found Laakso. I’m not quite sure about these guys. Their melody may sound pretty catchy but the lyrics are major turn-offs. I mean, for example: “…let’s go to Milano, its fashion week. And so am I. Weak, in need of love…”. That sure is original. After seeing their video Italy vs. Helsinki, I was just…perturbed?
Speaking of being perturbed, I found out that a lot of people have never heard of Natalie Walker. Take a listen. She is great!

EP.8 The Lovekevins, The Fine Arts Showcase, Audrey April 18, 2007

Today’s post is dedicated to the up and rising Swedish bands.
The Lovekevins. I’ve heard some say that they sound like Weezer meets Fountains of Wayne but I ASSURE YOU they do not. Hear for yourself.

mp3. The Lovekevins - Tamagotchi freestyle (radio edit)
I heard The Fine Arts Showcase on a friend’s podcast. They’re first album Radiola was released in 2006. Their newest album, The Fine Arts Showcase Sings The Rough Bunnies, as the title entails, will cover songs by the indie group The Rough Bunnies and will be released this spring. If you like Editors, you should like these guys. Listen to the first song from their newest album:
mp3. The Fine Arts Showcase - Dance with Your Shadow (originally by the Rough Bunnies)
Finally, we have Audrey. The looks might say Camera Obscura but give them a listen, and you’ll quickly realize that they’re music is nothing close to that genre.

EP.7 Anathallo, Sunset Rubdown, and Erin McKeown April 17, 2007
Posted by iweenie in Dig it!, mp3, music.add a comment
Hi All! Here are some good tunes for spring when your riding dirty in your top back. Sunset Rubdown is an indie rock band based in Montreal, Canada. The band began as a solo project of Spencer Krug, of Wolf Parade. Eventually, the group expanded to include Camilla Wynn Ingr of Pony Up!, Jordan Robson-Cramer of XY Lover and Michael Doerksen. The new line-up released its first effort, the band’s second LP, Shut Up I Am Dreaming, in May 2006. Take a listen to the song They Took a Vote and Said No from their album Shut Up I Am Dreaming.
mp3. Sunset Rubdown - Take Took a Vote and Said No
The second band you can jam to is Anathallo. Wierd band name you say well……the band’s name, Anathallo, is derived from a Greek word meaning “to renew, refresh or bloom again, and it also means to to sit in a pasture on a spring day stroking a three legged cat.” The band is originally from Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and now based in Chicago, Illinois (shout out to my old stomping grounds). Anathallo utilizes a wide variety of instruments, including horns, guitars, drums, piano, bells, and even unconventional objects like chains, velcro strips, stomp boxes, and pipes. Here is Hanasakajijii (Four: A Great Wind, More Ash) from their newest album.

mp3. Anathallo - Hanasakajijii (Four: A Great Wind, More Ash)
Hopefully you haven’t been caught by the po-po, the fuzz, coppers, or the 5-0. Here is your final listen for today, it is from the folk singer Erin McKeown. Erin started out by promoting her first album all over New England while trying to get a degree in Ethnomusicology from Brown University (talk about a lot of pressure). McKeown’s music is difficult to categorize in terms of genre; it has touched on pop, swing, rock, folk, and electronic music, as well as many other genres. She continues to perform regularly, spending much of her time touring throughout the world with artists such as Ani DiFranco, Josh Ritter, Andrew Bird, Thea Gilmore and others. Listen to Slung Lo from her album Grand on her myspace.

EP.5 Locksley, Maritime, Amy Winehouse, April 12, 2007
Posted by iweenie in Dig it!, mp3, music.1 comment so far
We’ll start off with the band Maritime who formed in 2003 out of the ashes of The Promise Ring and The Dismemberment Plan. The song Parade of Punk Rock T-shirts is a nice head bopper. I thoroughly enjoy it.
mp3. Maritime - Parade of Punk Rock T-shirts
I’m going to let you tell me what you think about this next one. Amy Winehouse is making strides in the U.S. when it comes to her popularity and fame. Her newest CD Back to Black shows of her jazz and soul song talent. Listen to one of her more popular songs Rehab.

I have one more group for you to listen to… Locksley.
Locksley’s sound is similar to The Beatles pre-Rubber Soul, mixed with the Kinks, a bit of The Beach Boys and plenty of the youthful enthusiasm of punk. Fantastic, energetic harmonies and melodies that harkens back to the early ’60s but mixed with garage rock guitars, and modern production, creating a sound that is completely addictive. They have all the style, substance and savoir faire of a British rock band, the dynamic magnetism, and some brutally hot men of an American rock band mixed with the bygone art of timeless song writing from the era of Rogers and Hammerstein or Gershwin. Locksley manage to encompass all these things and sound fresh and original. Take a listen to one of their hits “Don’t Make Me Wait” and see if you dig these guys.
